My husband and I are downsizing and moving from our 27 year old home. HELP!

Question: Hi My husband and I have been thinking about moving from the home we have been in for 27 years into a much smaller bungalow apartment. It’s been on our mind for years but now that our kids have been out of the house for so long and the maintenance seems like more of a pain each year, maybe it’s time. We are having a hard time with the idea of having to sell a lot of our artwork and collectables that have kept us company all these years. I think we need a good kick in the pants (especially me) or a point in the right direction. Can you help in anyway? Thank you for your time in answering my question.

Expert Advise: I was just asked the same question a few days ago! My recommendation is not to let an attachment to your possessions hold you back. You are at a great time in your life; make your move to a smaller place, maybe travel some more and do all those things that you couldn’t do while you were busy raising a family. In regards to artwork, we always recommend that our clients bring all their artwork to their new place. It is too difficult to make decisions on art before you move. Surprisingly, you may find some of your art looks even better hung on the walls in your new home. Don’t worry about the artwork that might be left over; you’ll find it is easy to give away or sell after you have moved. Don’t let your collectibles hold you back either…paring down and keeping what matters most should be your goal. If you have a collection of items, select your three favourties and let go of the rest. You’ll have the memories and be more comfortable in your surroundings.
